The Laziness of Perfectionism...
Ever felt that weird mix of wanting to do great things but also feeling too lazy to start? That’s the laziness of perfectionism sneaking in. We often convince ourselves that we’re waiting for the perfect moment to be inspired, but in reality, what happens to most of us who indulge in this laziness is we get to the point where we have a limited timeframe…we artificially create our own demand for efficiency by waiting until the last minute. You know, those moments when you end up cramming everything into the last minute? Yeah, unnecessary future stress
We all have these big plans – hitting the gym regularly, eating healthier, writing a blog post, or starting a podcast. But why is it that we often find ourselves stuck in a loop of “I’ll do it later when I feel like it”? It’s like we’re waiting for a magical burst of motivation to suddenly make everything easy. Spoiler alert: that rarely happens. Instead, we end up rushing everything because we’ve artificially created this urgent need to get things done.
Imagine if we could skip the stress part and still get things done efficiently. It’s not about doing your best work at the last minute – it’s about finally doing the work without the unnecessary stress. You can create a timeline for yourself that doesn’t involve procrastinating until the eleventh hour. Surprise, surprise – you can still do your best work without feeling like you’re about to explode from stress.
So many of the tasks and things we need to do in our lives to have an extraordinary life and build the character of resilience and efficiency is to do hard things. To do the things we don’t feel like doing in the moment but are taking care of for our future selves.
So, here’s the deal: the laziness of perfectionism is like a tricky friend. It makes you believe you need to wait for the perfect moment to start working on your goals. But guess what? You can break free from that cycle. No need to wait for inspiration to hit you like a lightning bolt. By setting deadlines ahead of time, you can still crush it without drowning in stress.
Let’s ditch the unnecessary drama and embrace a more chill approach to getting things done. The road to an extraordinary life doesn’t have to be paved with last-minute craziness. So, next time you catch yourself procrastinating, remember – you don’t need the pressure to do your best. You just need to start, even if it’s not the “perfect” moment…
Your future self will thank you for it.
