FREE WILL
One of the greatest gifts…and one of the heaviest burdens, ever given to us is the freedom to choose.
💭It sounds simple until you really sit with it.
Free will means you are not bound by the past, not imprisoned by what others have done to you, not defined by what has happened to you…or is even happening to you. It means that no matter how much life tries to script your story, you still get to write your own lines.
💭That’s terrifying and beautiful all at once.
You can choose joy. You can choose bitterness. You can choose to be better. You can choose a different mindset. You can choose to try again or to stay stuck. The choice is always yours, even when it doesn’t feel like it.
And sometimes? We don’t choose well. We self-sabotage. We let the situation win. We let our minds take over. We shrink. We let old wounds lead the way. That’s part of the human condition too. Because even then, free will gives us something sacred: the permission to begin again. The grace to forgive ourselves. The courage to choose differently next time.
As Viktor Frankl taught, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances.”
Your power is not in controlling what happens. Your power is in choosing who you become because of what happens.
That’s the dignity no one can take from you.
Because Choice is Creation
Every choice you make, big or small, is you brushing one more stroke on the canvas of your life.
The people you let close. The boundaries you set. The words you speak to yourself. The dreams you dare to chase or bury. All of it shapes you. All of it is art.
We forget that sometimes. We slip into autopilot. We tell ourselves we have no choice. But not choosing is still a choice. And you become what you tolerate, what you ignore, what you leave unspoken.
Choose. Boldly. Bravely. Kindly. Because whether you know it or not, you are always building something. Make sure it’s the life you actually want to live.
Because you have Permission to Begin Again, and Again…and Again
Here’s the part most people miss: Free will means you can always start over.
The person you were five years ago? She doesn’t own you.
The mistakes you made last month? They don’t define you.
The life you built that no longer fits? You don’t have to stay there.
You can forgive yourself. You can change your mind. You can walk away from what no longer serves you. You can grow into someone new.
The beauty of being human is not in getting it right every time. It’s in the permission you have to begin again. To choose differently. To try once more.
The door to your next chapter is unlocked. The only thing you need to do is open it.
There’s no blueprint for this life…
There are no guaranteed outcomes. But the one thing that remains…always…no matter the suffering, no matter the uncertainty, no matter the failure…is that you still have the power to choose.
To choose joy.
To choose healing.
To choose growth.
To choose grace.
And when you can’t find the strength to choose? Then choose this: keep going.
Sometimes the bravest decision you’ll ever make is to stay in the arena, bruised and bleeding, but still choosing.
The story isn’t over. And it won’t be written without you.
